Here I am, yet again, talking about a top I quickly whipped up before my honeymoon. I knew that I wanted some summery tops that were a little outside of what I would typically wear day to day. When I saw the Tint of Mint Vanessa pattern, I thought it would be perfect! I’m super happy with how it turned out.
Fabric and Sizing
I’ve had this rayon fabric in my stash for years now, just waiting for the right project. It’s so silky with such a lovely drape, I knew it would be great for this pattern. My only hesitancy was that it might not be opaque enough and the top isn’t exactly bra friendly. It turned out fine though and not see through at all. I think if I make this top again I will definitely try to find something with a similar drape and make sure it’s opaque.
For sizing, I went with a size 6. My measurements are 34, 26, 37 so I was kind of between 6 and 8. I decided to size down because I didn’t want any gaping given the style of the top. I’m really glad I did! If anything, I think I could have even done the 4 and been fine.
Making the Tint of Mint Vanessa Top
So this pattern was overall pretty easy and straightforward. Since it’s such a simple halter design, none of the steps are very complicated. It helps that the instructions have really great illustrations.I think I finished it within a few hours (which is quick for me).
The only part of the pattern I didn’t love was that it didn’t clarify how much elastic was needed for the elastic waistband. I think the idea is you’re supposed to figure out what’s comfortable and decide on your own, but I still like getting guidance from the pattern itself. I’m pretty sure I went with too long of an elastic piece and could have cut it shorter.
Final thoughts on the Vanessa Top
I love the look of this top! It’s elegant and sexy and not too trendy. I’m not sure how often I will wear it since it’s backless, so I don’t have another one slated. That being said, if I find myself needing a new summer top for a vacation or something I will definitely be reaching for this pattern!
