Friday Pattern Company Wilder Gown Pattern Review

02.02.2022

I’ve now made 4 Wilder Gowns and it’s finally time for me to write a review of the pattern. Obviously, I love the pattern! The pattern is a flowy and romantic top or dress that is so easy to sew. What’s not to love!

Fabric and sizing

My version of the wilder is made in a lightweight cotton/linen blend. I wanted something that would drape well but still be really easy to work with and this blend was perfect. You could really make this in any  woven. I made a version for a friend in 100% linen and I really loved the way it turned out – a bit more structured. A silk version could be really beautiful as well for a dressier look.

For sizing, I went with a size XS because I knew the top would be pretty flowy and unfitted. I’m usually between XS and S. The dress version is even more oversized than the top (in my experience) due to all of the tiers.

Sewing the wilder gown

The Wilder Gown top is so easy to sew! It’s one of those patterns that at this point I can make it without the directions in front of me. The sleeves are raglan – which in my opinion are the easiest sleeves to construct. The hardest part is probably getting the neckline ties through the channel – but if you have a good loop turner its easy!

I love how easily modifiable this pattern is. The pattern offers cutting lines for different sleeve lengths. It’s also really easy to add a tiered layer to the top version by just using the cutting line recommended for the dress version. I decided to modify mine slightly by lengthening and elasticizing the ends of the sleeves.

Final thoughts

Given how easy the wilder gown is to make and modify, I think I have one more dress version of it in my future. It makes a great summer dress and a great house dress since it’s essentially a nightgown 😁.
